EA's New Co-Op Game Released

Electronic Arts Inc (EA) recently announced the release of its co-operative action game, Army of TWO The Devil’s Cartel.

Army of TWO The Devil’s Cartel is developed by Visceral Games and the gameplay is set in Mexico. Tactical Worldwide Operations (“TWO”) is a private military organization, whose two operatives Alpha and Bravo fight the deadly drug cartel on the streets of Mexico.

The game includes an “Overkill” feature that allows gamers to go on a total destruction mode against their enemies. Players also have the option to customize their Alpha and Bravo characters.

The game is powered by the Frostbite 2 engine, which provides more advanced upgrade and customization system. Army of TWO The Devil’s Cartel has received a “M” (Mature) rating from the ESRB and can be played on Microsoft’s (MSFT) Xbox 360 and Sony’s (SNE) PlayStation 3.

EA has put in all its efforts to popularize the game by releasing demo packs prior to the game’s release and introduce renowned hip-hop stars Big Boi and B.o.B in the game. However, Army of TWO The Devil’s Cartel has been rated mediocre by metacritic, which will likely hamper the game’s future sales. According to metacritic ratings, the game has garnered 57 and 62 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 respectively.

Nonetheless, we believe that EA’s high-quality titles and a robust product pipeline along with increasing online exposure and traction in the social and mobile gaming market will boost its top-line growth over the long term.

However, we remain cautious on EA due to sluggish consumer spending on packaged video games, dismal video game sales and increasing competition from Activision (ATVI).

Currently, EA has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
