Minister Blaney Commends Toronto's Integrated National Security Enforcement Team on National Security Arrest

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec 1, 2013) - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued the following statement after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police detailed circumstances leading to the arrest of Qing Quentin Huang charged with offenses under the Security of Information Act.

"I would like to commend Toronto's Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) on this arrest and underscore the tremendous work and collaboration of our law enforcement and security agencies.

The vigilance of the RCMP and their INSET partners, including the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), and our provincial and municipal law enforcement partners, allowed for a successful end to this complex national security investigation.

This arrest demonstrates the importance of collaboration among security partners for the protection of Canada's national interest.

RCMP-led INSETs are specialized multi-agency investigative teams comprised of employees of the RCMP, Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA), and other law enforcement and national security partners at the federal, provincial, municipal levels who investigate all national security criminal threats.
