Man killed in Garfield/Potter crash ID'd

Oct. 18—TRAVERSE CITY — Donald Franklin Clewley, 46, a CEO and business founder, was identified as the Traverse City man killed in a car crash earlier this week.

First responders were called to intersection of Garfield and Potter roads at approximately 1:10 p.m. on Oct. 16, according to police reports.

Clewley was driving north when he was struck by an eastbound car driven by a 35-year-old Mesick woman, police said. The woman had children in the car at the time, according to reports from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office.

Capt. Chris Clark confirmed that Clewley was pronounced dead at the scene; the woman and her children were transported to Munson Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.

Clewley was the chief executive officer and founder of Eolus Facility Group, a company based in Traverse City. According to his biography on the company's website, he was originally from Michigan and moved to the Traverse City area in 1999.

"He reveled in canoeing down the Boardman River and mountain biking through the trails of Pere Marquette Forest," the website stated. "Even while his journeys pulled him away for a few years to explore the deserts of the Southwest, Traverse City always remained close to his heart — home."

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Company representatives did not return the Record-Eagle's calls for comment Wednesday afternoon.
