The economic calendar is light for the rest of this holiday-shortened week.

The main data report today is weekly initial jobless claims at 8:30 a.m. ET. The consensus estimate calls for 340,000 new filings, down from the previous week's 379,000. Continuing claims are expected to come in at 2.85 million, compared with 2.88 million in the last report.

Crude-oil inventories follow at 11 a.m. ET. No major earnings reports are scheduled.

The only data on tap for tomorrow is the weekly natural-gas inventory report.
