Candy giant Hershey said Friday that sales rose 8.9% from year-ago levels, benefiting from both higher prices and volumes. The maker of Reese’s Peanut Butter cups and Pirate’s Booty said volume growth in the first quarter came largely from its everyday core U.S. confection business, where retailers built inventory ahead of a major upgrade to the company’s systems. Hershey said it finished implementing its enterprise resource planning system at the start of the current quarter.
