Verizon exceeds Q4 expectations, but stock stagnates

In This Article:

Verizon's (VZ) fourth quarter earnings results exceeded expectations, with net gains of 568,000 monthly phone subscribers and 408,000 broadband subscribers, according to the company. The company achieved its best quarterly results in over a decade for additions in postpaid mobile and broadband subscribers.

However, despite the positive numbers, Verizon's stock showed little movement — reflecting analysts' views that growth is limited due to the company's large size.

First up, a look at shares of Verizon, as that company does beat estimates on the top and bottom lines, or about about 1%. Verizon also achieving its best quarterly result in more than a decade for addition editions in postpaid mobile and broadband subscribers. So, Q4 results are in. They do beat what the street was looking for. Net gain of 560,000 monthly phone subscribers, that's a beat. Uh, broadband, I'm just looking they added 408,000 broadband subscribers. Also a beat. So, the stock not doing a whole lot today, and frankly, we haven't done a whole lot over the past 12 months.

Yeah, the company also um, it's working on closing its acquisition of Frontier Communications and also announced a new AI product, um, that has to do with connectivity. Um, looking at some of the analyst commentary here, over at City, they said the results are positive, but they recognize Horizon will still likely be limited on postpaid phone volume growth, given the higher share. In other words, it's a huge company. There's some cost cutting going on, but in terms of growth, it is difficult to do in in the eyes of City at this at this size.

And Craig Moffett over at MoffettNathanson, well-known guy, uh, broadly speaking, he told his clients Verizon's fourth quarter results are about what the market expected, same with their 2025 guidance, and he has a neutral on this one, and perhaps that speaks to the kind of action we saw on the stock today.
