With President-elect Donald Trump set to reenter the White House in a few weeks, all eyes are on the incoming commander in chief to see how quickly he will work to enact all of the promises he made during his campaign. Will he work with Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, and DOGE to fix the national debt? Solve the immigration crisis? What will he prioritize on day one? We get into it.
On this week’s episode of Capitol Gains, Washington Correspondent Ben Werschkul breaks down the three biggest things Trump will likely do immediately upon reentering the White House. The first thing Trump will likely do is pass a wave of executive actions.
“[Trump] had a press conference recently where he talked about how he’s going to sign executive actions and other things,” Werschkul explains. So I think what we’re going to see on literal day one is January 20th, January 21st, is a lot of things they’re hoping to sign quickly.” Regarding all of this, Werschkul says to keep an eye on tariffs, the Paris climate accord, and the energy sector.
The second thing Trump will likely act on quickly is the border and immigration. “I don’t know if that will literally be day one. There is definitely an ambition in Congress to get close to that, but that’s sort of a new law that Trump could sign very quickly.
The third thing to watch out for in the coming weeks are Trump’s tariffs. Though the president-elect could move quickly in terms of enacting them, some take months to get through Congress.
