TikTok ban is 'parallel' to Trump's earlier Huawei concerns

Washington Post technology policy reporter and author of "House of Huawei," Eva Dou, joins Market Domination Overtime to discuss parallels between past tech restrictions and TikTok's potential ban.

Comparing Trump's first-term focus on Huawei to current TikTok concerns, Dou notes that while the companies are "very different on the surface," both share a critical similarity: the "enormous amounts of data" they collect from users.

"Right now, in the current US-China climate, there's enormous concern among the security community about that," she tells Yahoo Finance.

According to Dou, the global political landscape has shifted. She explains that the climate has changed from an era when countries embraced globalization, believing it was "safe to do trade and to share technologies." In recent years, however, Chinese and US officials have entered a period of "rivalry," with the US maintaining a significant lead but "China narrowing the gap in a way that's really concerning to Washington," Dou explains.
