From severance check to global influence: Out Leadership's story

After experiencing layoffs twice, now, Out Leadership founder and CEO Todd Sears was at a cross roads. Does he job hunt, like he's done before, or use his severance to pursue a dream? Well, during this episode of Living Not So Fabulously, hosts David & John Auten-Schneider add more context to Sears' decision. Anxiety around recessions and layoffs is so high because many folks are living paycheck to paycheck; "many of are not in a situation where we have three of six months, let alone maybe even $400 or $500, saved for emergencies," David said.

Though it wasn't easy, Sears does elaborate on how he was able to strategically and emotionally weigh his decision. From a life philosophy perspective, he believes that "the universe is always conspiring for your success." Sears didn't let the 'what ifs' hold him back. So with a paycheck and a dream, Sears broke ground with Out Leadership in, with a Davos World Economic Forum type of conference that included Bank of America (BAC), Barclays (BCS), Citi (C), Deutsche Bank (DB), Goldman Sachs (GS), Morgan Stanley (MS)—to name a few—with the then CEO of Deutsche Bank Josef Ackermann as the inaugural host.—al to help CEOs and companies to speak about LGBTQ+ rights and use their economic power for good.

Sears' story serves to inspire us all that we can turn a difficult situation into an impactful one.
