Nearly two-thirds of workers are feeling stuck in their current role, a recent Glassdoor survey shows. Glassdoor senior economist Daniel Zhao says this landscape could make 2025 the year of "revenge quitting," with workers fueled by the pent-up resentment associated with feeling trapped at their job quitting when the job market heats back up.
Zhao sits down with Brad Smith on Wealth! to discuss labor market conditions and the job turnover he expects in the new year.
"There's this desire [for workers to] grow their careers and as a result of being stuck, there is a desire to quit as well, but not the opportunity because of the cooler job market and so if people feel stuck, that resentment is going to build up. And once the job market does heat back up, I think a lot of employers are going to get caught flat-footed, not expecting a wave of turnover, a wave of revenge, quitting, if you will, to start to take hold."
