And if your social media feeds have been overrun with recommendations for low-quality AI generated content, there is a way to spring clean your algorithm. Yahoo Finance's Dan Haly has the answer for us. So how do people clean up their feeds from this stuff?

00:15 Dan Haly

Yeah, Julie, this is what's commonly referred to as AI slop, and it's basically just AI trash that, like, you know, litters your feed. Uh, we had a few examples. Uh, there, one, there's a cat that was dressed as Trump at a McDonald's. Uh, there was this, uh, one of like this weird trend of, uh, sea creatures being cleaned of barnacles that seem to be real, but it's not. Yeah, it's it's bizarre. But there are ways to get rid of these from, from flooding your feeds. Just look at that fluffy orange cat. Not real, by the way. If you're on Instagram, no, it's shocking. That's the, the, the sea life one.

00:54 Speaker A

And that looks a little more real, I guess. Although I don't know how all those barnacles would grow on a dolphin, but anyway.

01:00 Dan Haly

Yeah, that's doesn't make sense. Uh, to, to get rid of these on Instagram, what you're going to have to do is you're going to have to go, uh, tap your profile icon, the bottom right corner of the screen, and then from there, you're going to hit the three horizontal lines, that hamburger menu, uh, at the top of the screen. Uh, and then, uh, you'll want to select content preferences. Now, from here, you're able to do everything like change, uh, what you're interested in or not interested in, which words or phrases you want hidden, but you'll want to, uh, go ahead and tap reset suggested content. Then you get to a screen explaining what that does, uh, exactly. Uh, you'll be able to change the images, videos that you see normally. Uh, and then that resetting this content can't be undone. So you'll want to go ahead and tap next. You'll get, uh, a pop-up asking if there's anyone that you want to unfollow, any accounts you don't want to see around, and then press, uh, reset suggested content again. Uh, from there, you're all set. That'll get rid of those on Instagram on your explore page. Now, that doesn't mean that you're not going to see them anymore, but you'll still have them around occasionally, but less, less so, hopefully. What about TikTok?

02:23 Speaker A

Got it. But less, less so, hopefully. What about TikTok?

02:26 Dan Haly

Well, TikTok is, is similar. Uh, you also have that ability. Uh, what you're going to do is again go into your profile, uh, and you're going to tap another hamburger button. This, uh, this time it's going to be, uh, in the top right again. Uh, and then select settings and privacy. From there, uh, you're going to go to, uh, underneath content and display, there's content preferences, and you're going to tap refresh your for you feed. And this will provide you, uh, with, uh, a page explaining how this works again, uh, and that it won't impact videos that you see from accounts you follow. So your friends and stuff like that, or accounts that you actually want to see, uh, it's, it's not going to change that. Uh, you're going to press continue at the bottom of the screen, uh, and then refresh. You'll get another pop-up, and then boom, hit that button and you'll be done with these ridiculous AI things for now. They're not going to fully disappear. This is just stuff that's flooding the internet. Everybody sees it now. Uh, but if you, if you've clicked on it once, this is what happened to, uh, I saw the dolphin thing and I was like, man, is that real? There's no way that dude's touching that dolphin that close. Uh, and also the barnacles thing, tapped it, and then boom, my feed was just full of weird shapes like coming off of like trees and stuff. Uh, yeah, it was really trippy. And so I was like, I got to get rid of this nonsense. I hate this. So I just cleaned it up and now it's back to, you know, video games and all sorts of nonsense like that.

And real cats.

04:08 Dan Haly

Yes, real cats. The, the things that matter the most, real cats.

04:12 Speaker A

Exactly. Thanks, Dan.
