S&P 500, Nasdaq fall as investors await Powell, mortgage rates slip: Yahoo Finance

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI), S&P 500 (^GSPC), and Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) are all trading lower. Wall Street is in a holding pattern as investors await Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s speech from the Kansas City Fed’s Jackson Hole Economic Symposium on Friday morning. One thing that is moving are mortgage rates. The rate on an average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage fell to 6.46%, according to Freddie Mac. It’s the lowest level since May 2023.
