Nearly one year after a door plug blew out of an Alaska Airlines flight, Boeing (BA) has highlighted some of the efforts it has made to improve safety. Many of these are being executed by new CEO Kelly Ortberg, who took the helm of the aerospace giant in August.
Bloomberg Intelligence senior aerospace defense and airlines industry analyst George Ferguson says there is one thing that Ortberg needs to do now: improve deliveries. "Boeing needs to be very focused on safety and engineering culture quality. But at the same time, they need to deliver airplanes. Airbus is delivering at a much faster cadence and doing it with quality and not having any problems. Boeing can't live, can't exist as a company, at these levels of deliveries."
