Netflix earnings preview: Why sports are 'dominating the narrative'

Bloomberg Intelligence Senior Media Analyst Geetha Ranganathan sits down with the Morning Brief team to talk more about what she is expecting from Netflix's (NFLX) fourth quarter earnings print due out next week.

She characterizes fourth quarter results as "typically... tend[ing] to do really, really well, but really I think this time around sports is dominating the narrative" as the streaming platform leans more heavily into live entertainment content.

"We've had subscribers kind of joining the service and churning out of the service. But when you have... year-round programming, it really turns into a very sticky type of content. And that's exactly what they did with the WWE," she tells

"And there are there is some speculation that they're going to do some similar deals with... Formula 1 with UFC, which again, is going to give them... year-round content to keep those subscribers."

Netflix is scheduled to report earnings this Tuesday, January 21.
