MSCI Chief calls climate change 'existential threat,' urges action

In This Article:

MSCI (MSCI) Chairman and CEO Henry Fernandez joins Market Domination with Yahoo Finance Anchor Akiko Fujita to discuss global climate change initiatives.

"Some governments around the world are going to embrace the fight for climate, and other governments are going to be slower at doing that, but there is total recognition in the world," Fernandez explains, describing climate change as an "existential threat to the planet."

While acknowledging that climate initiatives aren't "totally a welcomed change," Fernandez emphasized that "it's also about the reality that every institution, every citizen has to take this matter into their own [hands] and make their own decisions."

Regarding market implications, Fernandez says, "I think gradually, the world is recognizing that in addition to the compliance market... the voluntary carbon markets are going to play a large role in what we do."
