Mediobanca made a surprise 6.3 billion ($7.2 billion) offer for the wealth management arm of Italian insurer Assicurazioni Generali. Mediobanca, which is facing a takeover bid from Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, is offering to pay for the deal by swapping its shares in Generali, it said Monday.
