As investor uncertainty grows approaching 2025, The Bahnsen Group senior managing director and partner Brian Szytel joins Catalysts to discuss the importance of taking a defensive portfolio approach.
Szytel characterizes 2025 earnings expectations as "pretty optimistic." While he acknowledges positive factors like tax reform, interest rate cuts, and earnings outperformance, he warns that markets could still experience multiple contraction, with overvalued sectors being particularly vulnerable.
"It's not necessarily prediction of a bear market or a down market, it's just finding value and understanding where total return is gonna come from in the form of income," he tells Yahoo Finance.
Szytel identifies expectations as the biggest market risk in 2025. "I think good things can happen, I believe they will happen so this isn't a negative comment," he states, though he cautions, "When you're priced to perfection, markets tend to get disappointed."
