Leveraging private equity for good in the US housing market

The debate around private equity in the housing market rages, and the Property Brothers Jonathan and Drew Scott address it head-on with Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi on Opening Bid.

The brothers recently launched their Healthy Home Innovation Fund to focus on housing affordability and sustainability. In their careers they have seen the way that private equity helps and hurts housing markets on local and national —and even international—levels.

Drew explains several of the ways that private equity can be the solution to the housing crisis: "There are solutions with offsetting the crisis. People who have a house, look at building a second unit or third unit on your property. If there are government lots that are sitting empty because there are thousands of government-owned properties that sit empty just in LA County alone, what can we do with that lot?"
