Advocacy group Project Liberty is seeking to acquire TikTok ahead of its potential ban on January 19. O'Leary Ventures Chairman Kevin O'Leary, who is working with Project Liberty on the purchase, joins Catalysts to discuss the necessity of collaborating with the incoming Trump administration to facilitate the deal.
"I support American entrepreneurship," O'Leary states, emphasizing that he doesn't need a position in the Trump administration to complete this acquisition.
"People mistake something that's very important. The number one export of the United States is not technology or natural resources or gas or oil. The number one export is the American dream. Everyone wants to come to America and start a business and become personally free," O'Leary explains, adding that he is working closely with Trump to maintain a pro-business regulatory environment.
Addressing the tariff controversy surrounding the president-elect, O'Leary advises, "You have to be able to distinguish between the noise and the signal. When he says something like, 'I'm gonna buy Greenland. We're gonna buy Canada.' That's the noise. The signal is 'I want a better economic union with Canada' particularly."
O'Leary acknowledges that while Trump's rhetoric can be "outrageous" at times, it's essential to "pull the kernel of opportunity out of everything he says."
