Indeed's career trends expert Jennifer Herrity joins Wealth! Host Brad Smith to discuss how younger generations are transforming workplace culture.
Herrity says a recent Indeed survey found that "When you look at the trends for Gen Z, they really value radical honesty, and this honesty is needed in both their personal and professional lives. So these are young workers [who] are showing up in every space as their authentic selves. And they really value spaces where their voices are going to be heard."
She adds, "What's really interesting from this data is it shows that Gen Z is actually redesigning the work landscape by doing things their own way. And so they're showing up to work, [but] they're showing up very differently." The data showed that 72% of employees aged 18 to 34 consider their job core to their identity.
The younger generation is "demanding and really advocating for work that is going to allow them to have this flexible lifestyle. So it's showing that they're not open or wanting to quit work, especially if their company is instituting a return-to-office policy. They're not opposed to it, but they want the flexibility for the things that they value. They value wellness. They value the openness to be able to kind of have this work-life balance, and employers are really responding to it."
