One of the world's busiest airports has shut down after a massive fire caused a power outage at London Heathrow. There you're seeing some of the footage as tens of thousands of passengers have already been impacted and 290,000 people who were scheduled to fly to or from the airport will be affected according to data from from Syrium. Now, on average, London Heathrow Airport handles about 1,300 flights per day and sees an average of 229,000 passengers travel through the airport on a typical day. The airport will be closed all day today as they work to restore power and counter-terrorism police are investigating the blaze which has left thousands of people stranded in the UK and abroad. British Airways, which is owned by parent company International Airlines Group, was the worst affected with 265 flights cancelled, about 37% of its schedule according to flight tracker FlightAware. Meanwhile, US airline stocks were not immediately impacted by the outage as flights to the UK make up a small percentage of their total volume.
