The Department of Justice plans to seek the death penalty in the case against Luigi Mangione for the killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Attorney General Pam Bondi saying in a statement quote, after careful consideration, I have directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case, as we carry out President Trump's agenda to stop violent crime and make America safe again. The 26-year-old Mangione is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he will remain until his trial begins. He has pleaded not guilty to state charges, but has yet to enter a plea for the federal murder charges. Mangione's next federal court hearing is scheduled for April 18th, followed by a state hearing in June.
