December PCE: Inflation ticks up ahead of tariff deadline

US stock futures (YM=F, ES=F, NQ=F) are trading higher after the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index, the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation measure, showed core prices increased as expected in December.

The inflation data comes just ahead of US President Donald Trump's self-imposed Feb. 1 deadline for tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China.

On Thursday afternoon, Trump reiterated his plans to put a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada, repeating his warning against America's two top trade partners. But even then, he added to the uncertainty by saying some provisions remain undecided.
