DC air collision: Southwest CEO calls industry 'family' first

An American Airlines (AAL) flight collided with a US Army helicopter late Wednesday night in Washington, DC, with first responders reporting there to be no survivors.

Southwest Airlines (LUV) CEO Bob Jordan addressed the incident on Catalysts, calling it a tragedy and noting that Southwest has offered assistance to American Airlines: "Our hearts go out to everyone who was affected."

"We're a competitive industry, but at the end of the day, we're a family," Jordan tells Seana Smith, calling for increased funding for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to enhance airline safety.

American Airlines CEO Robert Isom expressed that the operator is "absolutely heartbroken for the family and loved ones of the passengers and crew members and also for those that were on the military aircraft."
