Consumer sentiment rises in August

The first read on the August University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index is 67.8 which is better than the expected 66.9 and a bit of a jump from the July read of 66.4.

The read on current economic conditions was 60.9, down from 62.7 in July, while the expectations index jumped to 72.1 from 68.8 in the prior month.
