Now time for some of today's trending tickers. We're watching Boeing, United and Coinbase. First up, Boeing deliveries no longer banned in China. According to a report from Bloomberg, China is now allowing airlines to take delivery of Boeing planes after the United States and China agreed to temporarily reduce tariffs. Last month, Boeing said customers in China would not take delivery of new planes due to tariffs, and it was looking to resell potentially dozens of aircrafts. We're taking a look at shares of Boeing here, a few different headlines that are, of course, flowing around the name on the day, but of course, notably, looking at the shares pre-market, they're up by about 9/10 of a percent. China Airlines had also recently, about five days ago, announced their order for Boeing Triple 7X passenger and freighter models, and then additionally here, one of the stories that we're about to get to, there is a major US airline as well that is making its own commitments to revamping its interiors for its own Boeing fleets coming forward as well.
Yeah, Boeing really getting caught in the crosshairs when it comes to these tariff negotiations, as, of course, these planes are among the United States's biggest exports here. Having said that, interesting to see that Boeing is part of this month's long truce here that is going to be about 90 days between the US and China. It'll be interesting to see whether or not we see any other non-tariff barriers coming into these negotiations moving forward. Next up, United Airlines CEO is looking to reassure travelers the Newark Airport is safe. CEO Scott Kirby writing in an email that it is quote, "Absolutely safe to fly in and out of Newark Liberty International Airport." Of course, this follows two weeks of technology and air traffic control staffing issues at the airport, Brad.
Yeah, this combined with some other news out from United as well here, rolling out some of the new kind of interior designs and communicating that to investors, to the street, to customers as well. These new Boeing 787-9s with what they're calling United elevated interior. And essentially, this is even more of what we've been watching across United, across American Airlines, across Boeing and even Southwest when we spoke with Bob Jordan. And yes, Southwest when we spoke with Bob Jordan. But ultimately, for United here, they're looking across the international experience, and all of them trying to take one step or another to revamp or update the interiors as well. We'll see if this moves the needle among some flyers here. Also, we're finally watching Coinbase, set to join the S&P 500, replacing Discover Financial Services, which is in the process of being acquired by Capital One. Coinbase is the first crypto firm to join the index, and the change will take effect before trading on May 19th. So, dare I say it was old money in with the new money, something to that effect.
Yeah, it's a really good point. I'm also quickly going to mention here one of the reasons that you see stocks rallying when they're getting added to an index like the S&P 500 is because they can benefit from index fund purchasing, which, of course, we all know and well due to our 401Ks. So that's why you're seeing such a massive stock reaction here.
