Time now for to watch. Next week, the US stock market will be closed on Monday for the Labor Day holiday. Bond markets will also be closed. Markets have risen historically between Labor Day and the end of the year since 2000 with the S&P 500 rising four of the last five years, but the month of September, we know, tends to be the worst for stocks.
And taking a look at jobs, the monthly jobs report for August, coming up on Friday. Economists forecasting the labor market to rebound from July's weaker than expected numbers. Non-farm payrolls expected to go up by 163,000. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate ticks down slightly to 4.2%. And ahead of that data, we'll get other reads on the labor market. We've got jolts, that's job openings and labor turnover survey, and we've also got ADP employment data as well.
And moving over to the Fed, we'll get a round of Fed commentary after that report on Friday from Fed President John Williams and Fed Governor Christopher Waller. Investors will keep a close eye on all the new data and commentary as we count down to the Fed's September meeting.
