Apple's new AI to have 'meaningful impact' on China iPhone sales

Apple (AAPL) is navigating the task of launching artificial intelligence (AI) features in China, with expectations for a mid-2025 release.

President of TECHnalysis Research Bob O'Donnell predicts that Apple will need to release these AI features within the current iPhone cycle first.

"Apple originally said they wanted to have this in April of this year," O'Donnell explains. "That's going to be a little tough to hit, but my guess is it may be closer to June, especially because if it's September, we're already into the iPhone 17 ... logically, I think they're going to want to try and get it into this current iPhone cycle."

O'Donnell believes the AI introduction could lead to a "meaningful impact" in iPhone demand in China, though he cautions that Apple's market share faces rising competition from domestic brands like Huawei and Xiaomi. He believes "it's already starting to play out," while also highlighting the shift toward local brands and the impact of ongoing geopolitical tensions.
