India's Reliance rises as telecom, retail strength brightens outlook

Shares of the Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led conglomerate rose as much as 3.4% to their highest since late-October and were the top percentage gainers on India's benchmark Nifty 50 index. "Stock valuation has turned attractive," Antique Broking said in a note. Reliance posted a fourth-quarter profit above expectations on Friday, helped by a boost in its telecom business and retail arm.

China's Ant Group forays into brokerage business with $362 million Bright Smart buy

China's Ant Group is buying a controlling stake in Hong Kong-based brokerage Bright Smart Securities & Commodities Group for about $362 million, marking the fintech firm's first acquisition of a securities brokerage licence. Ant Group agreed to buy a 50.55% stake in Bright Smart for HK$2.81 billion ($362.26 million), the firms said in a joint statement. Bright Smart chairman Yip Mow Lum is selling 857.98 million shares at HK$3.28 each to Ant Group's Wealthiness and Prosperity Holding, which will be required to make an unconditional mandatory cash offer for all the issued shares.

Indian shares rise as Reliance results, foreign inflows boost sentiment

The Nifty 50 was up 0.9% at 24,255.55 and the BSE Sensex gained 0.98% to 79,989.97 as of 10:33 a.m. IST. Around a third of the Nifty's gains came from oil-to-telecom conglomerate Reliance Industries, which jumped 3% and hit a six-month high after beating analysts' estimates for quarterly earnings. "RIL's analyst meeting had a confident tone on the outlook for consumer retail growth normalisation back to double digits and domestic fuel sales increases, with details on ramp-up of the new energy vertical," Morgan Stanley said in a note.

TOKYO (Reuters) -Toyota Motor said it is exploring the possibility of investing in a potential buyout of key parts supplier Toyota Industries - a buyout that reportedly could cost $42 billion. "We are currently exploring various possibilities, including partial investment," the automaker said in a filing with the Tokyo stock exchange on Saturday following reports about the possible buyout. Bloomberg News reported on Friday that Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda and his founder family have proposed acquiring Toyota Industries in a possible 6 trillion yen ($42 billion) deal.
