Under normal circumstances, the fund invests at least 80% of net assets, plus the amount of any borrowings for investment purposes, in bonds of any maturity. It invests mainly in investment grade U.S. dollar-denominated fixed income securities, including corporate bonds, U.S. government and agency bonds and mortgage- and asset-backed securities. The fund may invest up to 40% of total assets in foreign securities including up to 20% of total assets in securities of issuers located in emerging markets countries.

Steve Cianci, CFA, is Co-Head of the Global Fixed Income team and a Senior Portfolio Manager. Steve is responsible for managing all Multi-Sector and related strategies and in addition, he is responsible for strategic initiatives as the team’s business head. Prior to joining MacKay Shields in January 2018, he was with Aberdeen for 7 years where his responsibilities included Head of US Core Plus and Opportunistic fixed income on the North American Fixed Income team. Before joining with Aberdeen, Steve worked as Co-Head of Core and Core Plus fixed income strategies, lead portfolio manager for Short Duration products and the Head of Structured Products at Logan Circle Partners. Previously, he held similar roles as a Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager at Delaware Investments. He is an adjunct professor of finance and a member of the Business Advisory Council at Widener University. Steve graduated with a MBA and BA from Widener University and is a CFA charterholder. He has been working in the investment industry since 1992.
