Copa Airlines Unveils New Support for Key Alternative Payment Methods in Partnership with UATP

Panama's leading airline, Copa Airlines, has partnered with UATP, the renowned global network enabling organizations to simplify payment processes. The partnership will integrate with Paysafe, a leading payments platform, through its SafetyPay solution, into Copa Airlines' payment offerings at Copa.com, enabling online cash payments, bank transfers, PIX instant payments and cross-border transactions for consumers worldwide.

Australia's Qantas to pay $76 million to former employees

The airline will pay the ex-employees through a compensation fund that will be established in early 2025, it said. The carrier added that the final amount will comprise of factors including compensation to the TWU and the costs incurred to distribute the funds to the individuals. The Federal Court will conduct a separate hearing at a later date to determine whether Qantas will be penalized for sacking the individuals, the airline said.

The Qantas Engineers' Alliance — comprising the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union (AMWU), The Australian Workers' Union and Electrical Trades Union — has been on strike since late-September, demanding a 5% annual pay rise and a 15% first-year payment. Qantas Engineers' Alliance said workers are stepping up for the industrial action as their "calls for fair pay have been ignored." The carrier had a "number of meetings" with the unions prior to the industrial action, aiming to reach an agreement that includes pay rises and other benefits, a Qantas spokesperson said in a statement.

Australia's Qantas lifts domestic revenue estimates, shares hit record high

(Reuters) -Australian flag carrier Qantas Airways on Friday raised its first-half domestic revenue expectations and said it was on track to restart dividend payments from the second half of the financial year, sending shares to a record high. The airline said domestic demand for travel was stronger than expected and also lowered first-half jet fuel costs after a drop in global prices to about A$2.55 billion ($1.69 billion), from an earlier estimate of A$2.7 billion. Qantas now expects revenue per available seat kilometre for its domestic businesses to increase by 3% to 5% for the first half ended Dec. 31 compared to a year ago, up from the 2% to 4% range it provided in August.

Shares of Qantas Airways hit an all-time high on Wednesday after Jefferies analysts hiked their price target on Australia's flag carrier, on the back of low fuel costs and expectations of a dividend payment. Qantas stock rose as much as 3.6% to a record high of A$7.830 by 0054 GMT. On Tuesday, Jefferies analysts raised their price target on the airline to A$10.53 from A$7.98, as strong domestic and international demand has raised expectations of a dividend payment along with its first-half earnings in February.

Australia's Qantas told to pay $114,000 to 3 sacked workers in landmark outsourcing case

A court on Monday ordered Australia's Qantas Airways to pay a combined A$170,000 ($114,000) to three baggage handlers it unlawfully sacked in 2020, implying a big damages bill for a lawsuit involving about 1,700 former workers whose jobs were outsourced. Federal Court Judge Michael Lee said Qantas must pay each of the fired workers A$30,000, A$40,000 and A$100,000 respectively for non-economic loss to reflect the "harm sustained" when the airline laid off them and their colleagues to prevent industrial action. Qantas had claimed the sackings were warranted as a cost-cutting measure during the COVID-19 pandemic and fought the industrial lawsuit all the way to the High Court.

Australian pilots union rejects Qantas Airways' wage proposal

The proposal included a two-year wage freeze, higher minimum guaranteed hours, increased standby pay and guaranteed payments for flying hours that may be lost due to unplanned disruptions or schedule changes during a roster period. "Qantas' insistence on a two-year wage freeze despite being highly profitable while also seeking concessions on key conditions was viewed by pilots as unreasonable," the Australian Federation of Air Pilots (AFAP) said in a statement. Of the 786 short-haul Qantas pilots who voted, 63.4% voted against the deal.

The Qantas Engineers' Alliance, made up of several unions, said on Thursday it wants a 5% annual pay rise and a 15% first-year payment "to make up for 3.5 years of wage freezes". The alliance said the industrial action was likely to affect Qantas flights in all major locations.
