Petrobras approves tender to restart fertilizer plants in Brazil's northeast, say sources

The board of Brazilian state-run oil company Petrobras on Thursday approved plans to select a partner to restart operations at its fertilizer plants in northeastern Brazil, according to four sources familiar with the matter. But the move still hinges on resolving ongoing disputes with current leaseholder Unigel, added the sources, who requested anonymity as the decision has not yet been made public. Chemical company Unigel was demanding compensation from Petrobras for losses on the plants, as previously reported by Reuters, with the impasse marking a setback for President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's plans to reduce Brazil's dependency on imported fertilizer.

Brazil's Petrobras cuts diesel prices to distributors

Brazilian state-run oil company Petrobras will reduce the price of diesel sold to distributors by an average 0.12 real ($0.0205) per liter starting on Friday, it said in a statement on Thursday. The reduction comes with crude prices falling in recent weeks after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on a number of countries on April 2. Changes on the exchange rate and Brent crude oil prices weighed on the decision to update prices, Chief Financial Officer Fernando Melgarejo told Reuters.

Petrobras' new discoveries are 'significant', executive says

Discoveries made by Brazilian state-run oil firm Petrobras discoveries this year in the Campos and Santos basins and in the Buzios field are "significant," exploration and production head Sylvia dos Anjos said on Wednesday. Petrobras announced hydrocarbon discoveries in February and March at the Aram block, located in the Santos basin, and at the Norte de Brava block in Campos basin, as well as in a well located in the western region of the Buzios field.
