LONDON (Reuters) -Pernod Ricard reported a 3% decline in third-quarter sales on Thursday, missing forecasts as tariff uncertainty in major markets the United States and China rocks the already-struggling spirits sector. Analysts had expected Pernod, the world's No. 2 Western spirits maker, which produces Jameson Irish whiskey and Mumm champagne, to report a 2% decline in organic net sales in the three months to end-March. Pernod's sales were boosted by U.S. wholesalers ordering ahead of expected tariffs.

President Trump is going after one of Europe’s main pressure points with his threat to impose a 200% tariff on the continent’s wines and spirits. France, the eurozone’s second-biggest economy, is the world’s largest wine exporter, followed by Italy and Spain. President Trump threatened to impose 200% tariffs on alcohol from the European Union, one day after the EU said it planned 50% import taxes on U.S. whiskey and other products from April 1, in retaliation for steel and aluminum levies. “If this Tariff is not removed immediately, the U.S. will shortly place a 200% Tariff on all WINES, CHAMPAGNES, & ALCOHOLIC PRODUCTS COMING OUT OF FRANCE AND OTHER E.U. India authority orders New Delhi city to reconsider Pernod license rejection

NEW DELHI (Reuters) -An Indian appeals authority ruled that the city of New Delhi must reconsider its refusal of a liquor license request by France's Pernod Ricard, rejecting its justification the company had a criminal background, the order seen by Reuters showed. India accounts for a tenth of Pernod's group sales, and its business in New Delhi - an urban tourist hub considered a showcase market for premium brands - had previously contributed around 5% of its sales in the country. Retail sales of Pernod's brands, which include Chivas Regal, have been prohibited in the Indian capital since 2022, however, with authorities repeatedly denying it a license citing ongoing investigations into suspected violations of liquor regulations.
