Belgium's largest semiconductor supplier Melexis forecast fourth-quarter sales below expectations, prompting a slight cut in its full-year outlook as carmakers temporarily cut inventories, dragging its shares down to their lowest level in over four years. Melexis, Belgium's largest semiconductor supplier, forecast third-quarter sales in line with expectations on Wednesday after second-quarter sales marginally beat estimates, driven by demand for premium automotive equipment. The company, which supplies mostly to automotive customers, reported sales rose 4% year-on-year to 245.7 million euros ($266 million) in the second quarter, slightly ahead of the 244.2 million expected by analysts in a company-provided poll. Melexis to produce all of NIO's current chips for traction inverters

Melexis' shares were 2.7% higher at 85.1 euros by 1408 GMT following the announcement. The Belgian semiconductor supplier said its chips, needed to convert a battery's direct current into the alternating current used by an electric motor, will power all of NIO's battery electric vehicles. "Our current sensor (integrated circuit) ICs, coupled with the expertise of our dedicated local engineers, will provide NIO with the support they need to achieve success in the electric vehicle market," said Dieter Verstreken, Vice-President of Melexis's China Strategy, in a statement.
