Pilots union breaks off talks over Lufthansa's staffing plans, sources say

BERLIN (Reuters) -The VC pilots union is breaking off talks with Germany's Lufthansa over proposed cuts, sources told Reuters on Wednesday, increasing the likelihood of strikes by cockpit crew over the course of this year. The airline is seeking union approval for cost reductions at Lufthansa's core brand, which has been loss-making. The airline has told employees it needs to make savings in particular in its short- and medium-haul travel offerings, according to a document seen by Reuters.

Lufthansa says no decline in US bookings despite stricter border policy

German airline Lufthansa has not experienced a decline in bookings to and from the United States despite a stricter border policy under President Donald Trump, its finance chief said. "Our important transatlantic business continues to look very good," CFO Till Streichert told newspaper Boersen-Zeitung in an interview released late on Monday. Streichert described the market environment for 2025 as positive, especially in the North Atlantic, saying he expected a "significant improvement in earnings for the group".

Lufthansa CTO warns over maintenance demand on next jet engines

The top procurement official at one of Europe's largest airlines urged GE Aerospace and other engine makers on Wednesday not to overlook durability when it comes to designing the next generation of fuel-saving engines. Problems with durability - or the gap between scheduled maintenance visits to overcome wear and tear - have resulted in long waiting times at engine repair shops in recent years, leaving hundreds of airplanes grounded and pushing up fares. "Give me unlimited time on wing and I buy now," Lufthansa Chief Technology Officer Grazia Vittadini said at a Brussels aviation policy forum hosted by GE Aerospace.

Air France-KLM in ongoing talks with Air Europa on potential stake, CEO says

PARIS (Reuters) -Air France-KLM is in talks to take a stake in Spanish airline Air Europa and is looking to boost its existing holding in Scandinavian carrier SAS to a majority, CEO Ben Smith told Reuters on Tuesday. "We've had a meeting with Air Europa," Smith told Reuters in an interview in Paris, confirming for the first time the French-Dutch carrier was interested in buying a stake. He added that it was also on track to increase its stake in SAS as the carrier was meeting the necessary milestones, including integration into the SkyTeam airline alliance, of which Air France-KLM is also a member.

Air France-KLM offers 300 million euros for 51% in Air Europa, El Confidencial reports

Franco-Dutch airlines group Air France-KLM has offered 300 million euros ($326.82 million) for a 51% stake in Spanish airline Air Europa, news website El Confidencial said on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources close to the negotiations. Air France-KLM, which said in November talks were underway, would also take over Air Europa's 475 million euro debt owed to the Spanish government, El Confidencial added. The offer comes one month after two sources with knowledge of the talks told Reuters German rival Lufthansa was considering making an offer for a minority stake in Air Europa.
