(Reuters) -Hexa Climate Solutions, backed by private equity firm I Squared Capital, has acquired Finland-based Fortum's Indian renewables portfolio and plans to invest $500 million to expand its clean energy projects. The deal includes a 100% stake in state-owned Fortum's India unit, a 206 MW commercial and industrial renewables portfolio, a 600 MW pipeline of ready-to-build projects, and Fortum's 40-member India team, Hexa said on Tuesday.

Microsoft is shifting its data centre strategy to be driven by power availability rather than user demand or creating supply, and sees the Nordic region as a prime location for emission-free capacity to sustain artificial intelligence, its director in charge of AI Infrastructure said on Friday. Microsoft, which operates some 300 data centres globally and is investing about $80 billion more in them by the end of June, has a goal to become carbon negative by 2030, meaning it needs to find emission-free renewable power to be able to sustain the AI-driven expansion of its cloud-based data storage and usage.

HELSINKI (Reuters) -Nordic utility Fortum faces cyberattacks on a daily basis in Finland and Sweden and has sometimes spotted drones and suspicious individuals near its sites, its CEO told Reuters, adding the company had asked the authorities to investigate. Security services in Finland and Sweden declined to comment on specific incidents, but both have alleged a pick up in malicious activities by Russia in recent years. Russia's foreign ministry or embassy in Helsinki did not immediately reply to a written request for comment.

Fortum said on Monday it had agreed to sell its 37.4% stake in Finnish biorefining technology firm Chempolis, including Fortum's biobased solutions businesses, and its stake in the firm that owns 40.3% of Assam Bio Ethanol in India. The Finnish energy group said in a statement the buyer is India's AM Green Technology & Solutions. Fortum said the divestment is a part of its strategic review and would not have a material impact on its result.
