Franco-British satellite operator Eutelsat will replace its CEO with Orange executive Jean-Francois Fallacher, it said on Monday, in a surprise move by a company in the spotlight for its role in European defence communications. Fallacher, currently CEO of Orange France, will take over on June 1, at a time when Eutelsat has said it needs more financing. The Frenchman takes over as Europe is looking for home-grown commercial and defence satellite communication options to reduce its reliance on Elon Musk's Starlink.

French TV regulator to rule on Eutelsat's potential sanctions breach 'very shortly'

France's Arcom will rule on Eutelsat's compliance with European sanctions against Russia soon, the broadcasting authority told Reuters, following requests from several NGOs that it should take action against the satellite provider. "The process of investigating the cases reported to Arcom is nearing completion, and the authority's college is due to rule very shortly on the actions to be taken," it said in an emailed statement. Eutelsat in 2022 stopped broadcasting three Russian TV channels after Arcom urged it to do so, but it still has contracts with Russian companies such as the army's broadcasting unit Zvezda and state media holding VGTRK.

MILAN (Reuters) -Shares in Franco-British satellite operator Eutelsat rose on Thursday, bringing gains over four days to near 650% in a rally that bears the hallmarks of retail traders amplifying moves on a highly shorted stock. "This is a classic short squeeze of relatively unheard-of proportions, but to be fair, proportionate to the tectonic shifts we see in global geopolitics since the election of Trump," Bernstein analyst Aleksander Peterc said. The rally started after Friday's public row between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and U.S. President Donald Trump, after which Washington paused military aid to Ukraine.
