Airbus hints at new Space charge as it explores alliance PARIS (Reuters) -Airbus signalled a potential new charge in its troubled Space business on Tuesday, saying it would update investors on a long-running status review of a major satellite programme during annual results on Feb. 20. In a webcast to analysts, the European aerospace group did not provide details of the planned update but said it was progressing in its more than year-old technical assessment. Airbus has already absorbed 1.6 billion euros ($1.67 billion) of charges for its Space business, which industry sources have linked mainly to the ambitious OneSat programme of reprogrammable satellites, with more provisions expected. Leonardo CEO meets Airbus head to discuss satellite alliance ROME (Reuters) -Leonardo Chief Executive Roberto Cingolani said he had met the head of French peer Airbus on Tuesday to discuss possible alliances in the satellite industry which would allow Europe to better face up to global competition. "We are working (on a satellite alliance) with Airbus and Thales," Cingolani said on the sidelines of a conference at the Italian parliament after meeting the Airbus CEO early on Tuesday morning at an airport in Rome. Cingolani last summer confirmed ongoing discussions between the Italian aerospace and defence group and France's Airbus and Thales on space alliances to compete with rivals such as the United States and China. The rotary wing division of planemaker Airbus said in a business update that it had won 455 gross orders, or a net total of 450 after cancellations, up 15% from the previous year and marking the highest net order haul since 2012. Airbus in better shape than feared but risks ahead, CEO tells staff The CEO of Europe's Airbus has told staff that the group ended 2024 in better shape than it feared when cutting profit targets last summer, while warning of increased risks to its business from a worsening international environment. Referring to group-wide performance, Guillaume Faury said in a New Year memo seen by Reuters: "From an operational point of view, we finished the year in a better state than we feared when we changed our guidance to the financial markets" in July. Airbus CEO says Europe's two fighter jet programmes could combine Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said he could see the two separate European programmes working on new fighter jets and combat air systems being combined in future or at least designed to work together. Britain, Italy and Japan said in December they were setting up a joint company to develop, design and build an advanced stealth jet, named GCAP, while France, Germany and Spain are working on the rival FCAS project. "Each and every country could contribute its financial and technological capacity to a bigger programme for Europe, because that's what we need at the end." Airbus CEO confident about 75 aircraft a month target LONDON (Reuters) -The chief executive of Airbus said he was confident the company would reach its target of manufacturing 75 single-aisle aircraft a month in 2027, given its investment, focus on its supply chain and the hiring of people ahead of time. The European planemaker had in July cut its annual delivery target to "around 770" aircraft from 800 after Faury said he had been "blind-sided" by a drop in supplies from enginemaker CFM. As production ramps up towards target, Faury said Airbus was trying to ensure that each supplier has a plan in place to overcome potential issues. Boeing's aircraft deliveries and orders in 2024 reflect the company's rough year Boeing delivered less than half the number of commercial aircraft to customers than its European rival in 2024 as the American aerospace giant's output suffered under intensified government scrutiny and a factory workers' strike, according to data released Tuesday. Boeing said it supplied 348 jetliners during the year. More than three-quarters of the planes that Boeing furnished were 737 Max jets, a stark reminder of how integral its best-selling airline model has been to the company's fortunes and challenges.
