The merger of AirAsia is intended to create efficiencies and aid a significant expansion of routes and global network reach, AirAsia executives have said. AirAsia operates short-haul routes around Asia with single-aisle aircraft while AirAsia X flies wide-body planes on longer routes including to Australia and Saudi Arabia. Carrier AirAsia discloses new listing plans under $1.4 billion units merger As part of the deals, long-haul airline AirAsia X will take over Capital A's aviation business and eventually create a new company thereby taking over the listing status of AirAsia X. Capital A's aviation business comprises airlines AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia Aviation Group.
