Why Some Tariffs Are Now Above 3,500%
The U.S. just slapped a 3,521% duty on some solar goods from Cambodia—meaning import duties are more than 35 times the cost of the product itself. That was the steepest levy imposed after a probe into the solar industries of four Southeast Asian countries, namely Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. This marks a win for companies including First Solar (FSLR) that brought the case last year, arguing that Chinese companies operating in Southeast Asia benefit from subsidies that throttle U.S. manufacturing.
