SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 24, 2014) - ZTE, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, has selected the TrueTouch® Gen5 capacitive touchscreen controller from Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) for its premium brand nubia X6 superphone. The new phone leverages the Gen5 TMA568 controller's market-leading gloved finger tracking for its dynamic 6.44-inch touchscreen display. The feature enables users to operate the phone even while wearing thick gloves, such as those used by skiers, and it automatically switches between glove and finger tracking without any manual configuration. The Gen5 solution also delivers superior finger tracking and sensitivity to the nubia X6.

Gen5 delivers the world's most robust immunity to electrical noise from sources such as after-market chargers and displays, and it enables leading water tolerance. This combination provides accurate touch input and finger tracking in environments where competing solutions experience false and missed touches. The unique features of TrueTouch are backed by an industry-leading portfolio of more than 100 capacitive touch sensing patents.

"We selected Cypress for its technical leadership in providing advanced features, such as gloved finger tracking, and for its strong global technical support," said Ni Fei, CEO of nubia brand at ZTE. "Our designers worked closely with the TrueTouch team to optimize touchscreen performance for the nubia X6's world-class display, giving our customers an ideal user experience."

"We are pleased to have a telecommunications leader such as ZTE choose TrueTouch for another of their premium nubia brand phones," said Shuo Zhang, vice president of worldwide mobile sales at Cypress. "The top-performance nubia X6 superphone is a perfect showcase for our flagship Gen5 TMA568 touchscreen controller, demonstrating its superior sensitivity and unmatched gloved finger tracking on its large, impressive display." TrueTouch solutions also drive the touchscreens of the nubia Z5S, nubia Z5S Mini and nubia Z5 phones.

Electronic noise from displays and after-market chargers can disrupt a touchscreen's ability to operate properly. The TrueTouch Gen5 family's ChargerArmor™ feature delivers unprecedented 40 volt peak-to-peak (Vpp) charger noise immunity measured from 1 to 500 kHz with an ultra-thin 0.5-mm cover lens and a finger-size up to 22 mm -- the most stringent specifications used to measure any touchscreen controller. No competing controllers deliver noise immunity over 15 Vpp under these conditions.
