Zappos chief marketing, merchandising and growth officer Joe Cano has left the company, FN has learned.
According to a post on Cano’s LinkedIn page, he has started a new position as the senior vice president of digital at home improvement retailer Lowe’s.

“After an incredible journey at Zappos, where I had the privilege of working alongside an extraordinary team, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined Lowe’s as the SVP of Digital,” Cano wrote on LinkedIn on Thursday. “Zappos will always hold a special place in my heart — I’m deeply grateful to the team for their passion, creativity, and dedication. Together, we achieved amazing milestones, and I’ll forever cherish the memories and lessons learned.”
He continued: “Now, I’m excited to start this next chapter with Lowe’s, where I’ll be focusing on driving innovation, enhancing the customer experience, and leading digital transformation. The possibilities ahead are endless, and I can’t wait to collaborate with the talented Lowe’s team to make an impact.”
FN has reached out to Zappos for comment. It was unclear if the open position would be filled.
Cano joined Zappos in 2022 as chief merchandising officer, and has served in his expanded role since June 2023, according to LinkedIn. Prior to his tenure at Zappos, he served as the GM of menswear and accessories at Walmart.com, where he worked with the Jet.com and Walmart.com teams in New York. He’s also held roles at Gilt.com, Saks Fifth Avenue, Forever 21 and other fashion retailers.
This move comes just months after Zappos had a major leadership change. In September, the company confirmed that Shopbop chief executive officer Kim Fleissner is expanding her role and will now lead Zappos as well.
She replaces former CEO Scott Schaefer, who exited the company on Nov. 1. Both Zappos and Shopbop are owned by Amazon.
The move marked the third CEO change at Zappos in four years. In 2020, a few months before his death, Zappos co-founder Tony Hsieh left the CEO role, and Kedar Deshpande took over. In late 2021, Deshpande departed the company for Groupon, and Schaefer was appointed acting CEO for a short time before getting the permanent gig in April 2022.
