YouTube’s got a new quiz sticker for Shorts, while it’s also expanding the roll-out of voice replies on clips, providing another interaction option for viewers.
First off, YouTube’s giving creators the opportunity to quiz their Shorts viewers, with a new, customizable question sticker that you can add to your clips.
As explained by YouTube:
“With this one-click sticker, creators can quiz their audience, and evaluate if they understand a particular concept. This, in turn, can inspire future content creation. Whether you’re testing their knowledge on a recent video topic, diving into a niche subject, or simply adding a dose of light-hearted competition to your channel, the possibilities are endless.”
Creators will have oversight into total response volume, as well as the percentage of viewers that selected each answer choice.
It could be another engagement option to help build community, while brands can also use this to help raise awareness about key product features.
YouTube’s also expanding voice replies to Android, after initially launching them to selected iOS creators in December last year.
As you can see in this example, voice replies, as described, enables creators to reply to comments with an audio clip. Creators who have the functionality enabled will see a sound wave icon when responding to a comment, which enables them to record a voice clip, then post that as a reply.
Worth noting that creators can also post a Short video clip as a reply as well. So, functionally, it’s not a huge update, but voice responses add another, more personal touch, which could help to enhance engagement with your audience.
YouTube says that voice replies are now available to a small group of testers on Android, with a broader expansion to follow.
“If you’re in the test group and want to reply to a comment via voice: Navigate to one of your videos via the YouTube app > Find a comment you want to respond to > Tap ‘Reply’ > Tap the sound wave icon > Record a voice reply > Post it as a comment. Though the ability to post voice replies is limited to the experiment group, all YouTube users can engage with these comments.”
YouTube’s also now giving all creators access to its Shorts visual guide tools, which map out where the UI buttons will appear when your video is displayed in the app, helping you avoid obscuring your key overlays and elements.
A few smaller updates from YouTube this week, though the quiz sticker could be a valuable option for many creators.
