You don’t have to be a doctor, software engineer or have a fancy degree to earn a good salary.
We identified a few jobs you can land without a college degree that’ll pay you more than the average American income of around $47,000.
Here are four surprising jobs that Yahoo Finance has found pay shockingly well.
1. If you don’t mind getting wet, a career as a professional golf-ball diver could be perfect for you. An estimated 300 million golf balls are lost each year, and divers are sent out to fetch them. Finding and reselling golf balls is now a $200 million-a-year industry and golf-ball divers earn between $50,000 and $100,000 a year. Just beware of occupational hazards, which can include alligators and pesticides.
2. Do you look good in brown? Consider jumping behind the wheel of a UPS delivery van. UPS makes about 18 million deliveries a day, and UPS drivers earn an average annual salary of $77,000. That’s $40,000 more than the average FedEx driver. Make it 25 years without an accident, and you can be inducted into the UPS Circle of Honor. Just beware of dog bites.
3. Americans consumed a billion packages of hot dogs in 2013, and some of the very industrious vendors who sold them earn as much as $100,000 a year. New York City is your best bet if you want to make it big as a hot dog vendor, but you’ll have to be willing to pay $200,000 in fees to get a coveted spot in Central Park.
4. If you work well under pressure and dream of directing traffic in the skies, consider becoming an air traffic controller. Every hour there are 5,000 planes in the sky and air traffic controllers keep all those planes at a safe distance from each other. Average salary for air traffic controllers is around $118,780 a year, but keep in mind that the job comes with high stress levels and mandatory age for retirement is 56.
