YKK’s Sustainability Vision 2050 aims for climate neutrality by 2050. The trims manufacturer plans to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions—Scope 1, 2, and 3—by 90 percent from FY2018 levels, in line with the net-zero target outlined by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
YKK received validation from SBTi for its net-zero target in December 2024. The company has been implementing various measures such as energy conservation and renewable energy, while maintaining transparency.
Last year, YKK announced that it achieved a 56.2 percent decrease in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 32.7 percent reduction in Scope 3 emissions for FY2023. This surpassed YKK’s target to half the company’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.
The rating from the CDP underscores the global acknowledgment of YKK’s proactive climate action and transparent information disclosure, the Japanese company said. The company pledges to collaborate with customers and local communities to accelerate efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the supply chain, contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.
Minoru Maeda, YKK Corporation’s VP and general manager of the environment and safety department, credits YKK’s “Cycle of Goodness” corporate philosophy for its sustainability achievements.
Established by YKK founder Tadao Yoshida, the Cycle of Goodness philosophy encapsulates YKK’s ethos of mutual prosperity with society, customers, related industries, and employees—a mindset that the company said aligns seamlessly with sustainability principles.
“We will continue to actively work to reduce our GHG emissions and environmental impact throughout our value chain to enhance our trustworthiness with all stakeholders, including our environmentally conscious customers and suppliers,” Maeda said.
