WASHINGTON, Jan 2 (Reuters) - The White House is likely to announce a nominee for a Federal Reserve Board of Governors seat next week or the following week, a source close to the matter said on Friday.

The White House plans to nominate a candidate with background in community banking, the source said.

A White House official said the administration did not have a personnel announcement at this time.
