Whitbread, owner of the Premier Inn brand, has announced the commencement of construction on a new hotel development on Rochdale Road, north of Manchester City Centre in the UK.
The move is part of the company's expansion in areas where its presence is currently limited, marking the latest investment in the city this year.
A ground-breaking event was held signalling the start of construction, having appointed GMI Construction Group as the principal contractor in July 2024.
Whitbread had previously acquired the site with planning consent from Premcor in February 2024.
The upcoming ten-storey Premier Inn is set to house 229 bedrooms, which include the brand’s sought-after Premier Plus rooms.
The hotel will also feature an integrated restaurant, bar, and reception area on the ground floor.
Upon completion, the Premier Inn at Rochdale Road is expected to be one of Whitbread’s largest hotels in Manchester, complementing its existing portfolio of more than 20 properties across the city.
Whitbread project and programme manager Will Steward said: “The Rochdale Road Premier Inn will bring our very best product to the north of the Northern Quarter – an area of the city where we are not heavily represented and where we know our customers want Premier Inn to be.
“As an operating hotel business, our goal is to turn our development sites into popular hotels for our guests quickly. With building work now underway, we are on our way to having a new location for our customers to enjoy in 2026, and I’m looking forward to working with the team to deliver the significant new opening.”
The company unveiled plans last month for the largest Premier Inn in the north of England at Manchester Airport, in partnership with MIX MANCHESTER.
Furthermore, Whitbread sold its Manchester City Centre (Deansgate Locks) hotel for redevelopment purposes earlier this year.
"Whitbread begins construction of new Premier Inn hotel in Manchester, UK" was originally created and published by Hotel Management Network, a GlobalData owned brand.
