Sept. 29 is National Coffee Day, and restaurants, convenience stores and brands alike are toasting the made-up holiday by giving away free coffee and serving up discounted brew.

Through Monday, the Coupons.com cashback app is offering a free cup of coffee rebate up to $2.50 at participating businesses including Starbucks, McDonald’s, Dunkin’, 7-Eleven, Tim Hortons, Peet’s Coffee, Taco Bell, Carl’s Jr., Denny’s, IHOP and Burger King. You’ll need to submit an itemized receipt for a hot cup of coffee to cash in.

Local coffee shops are expected to be busier than usual Sunday too, according to Womply, a small-business software provider.

“National Coffee Day is one of the more popular days of the year for local coffee joints,” said Brad Plothow, vice president of brand and communications for Womply. “Expect big deals and longer-than-normal lines if you venture out to your favorite coffee klatch.”
