Sunday is the ultimate day to get – and stay – caffeinated for little or no cost.
Sept. 29 is National Coffee Day, and restaurants, convenience stores and brands alike are toasting the made-up holiday by giving away free coffee and serving up discounted brew.
Through Monday, the Coupons.com cashback app is offering a free cup of coffee rebate up to $2.50 at participating businesses including Starbucks, McDonald’s, Dunkin’, 7-Eleven, Tim Hortons, Peet’s Coffee, Taco Bell, Carl’s Jr., Denny’s, IHOP and Burger King. You’ll need to submit an itemized receipt for a hot cup of coffee to cash in.

Local coffee shops are expected to be busier than usual Sunday too, according to Womply, a small-business software provider.
“National Coffee Day is one of the more popular days of the year for local coffee joints,” said Brad Plothow, vice president of brand and communications for Womply. “Expect big deals and longer-than-normal lines if you venture out to your favorite coffee klatch.”
Want to extend the free coffee holiday? Get free cups and discounts year-round by using restaurant and convenience store loyalty programs. Many programs give you a free cup just for joining.
The following offers are available Sunday, Sept. 29 unless otherwise noted. Always check with your closest location as offers and participation can vary. Also, some will require you to have a restaurant's app or be signed up for emails.
7-Eleven: For a limited time with the 7Rewards app, get any size coffee for $1. Download the free app at www.7-eleven.com/7rewards.
Barnes & Noble: Get a free hot or iced tall coffee with the purchase of a bakery case item Sunday.
Biggby Coffee: Get a free hot brewed coffee Sunday at participating locations.
Bojangles’: Starting Sunday and through Dec. 31, the chain is offering $1 any size of its signature Bo’Town Roasters coffee at participating restaurants.
Bruegger’s Bagels: Members of Bruegger’s Inner Circle rewards program get a free medium coffee with any purchase each day through Sunday. Sign up at www.brueggers.com.
Caribou Coffee: There will be three different deals Sunday. Get a medium hot coffee for $1, a medium Cold Press Black for $2 or a Nitro Black for $3.
Circle K: Get a free medium coffee Sunday with the Circle K app at participating locations. Also customers can get a free Belvita Breakfast Biscuit with their coffee Sunday.
Corner Bakery Cafe: From Sunday through TuesdayOct. 1, get a free coffee – any brewed hand-roasted coffee or cold brew – with any purchase and a coupon posted at www.cornerbakerycafe.com/offers.
Coupons.com: Through Monday, get up to $2.50 in cashback deposited in your PayPal account with the savings app’s National Coffee Day rebate. Download the app, then look for "Special Offers" in the store list, tap the offer and purchase a single cup of hot coffee at select stores by 11:59 p.m. PST Monday, Sept. 30. Then you have until Oct. 3 to submit the itemized receipt on the app. Participating restaurants include Dunkin’, 7-Eleven, Starbucks, McDonald’s, Dunkin’, 7-Eleven, Tim Hortons, Peet’s Coffee, Subway, Burger King, Taco Bell, Denny’s, Carl's Jr. and IHOP.
Cumberland Farms: Text FREECOFFEE to 64827 to get a coupon for a free hot or iced coffee in any size Sunday. The text coupon requires a smartphone to redeem.
Dunkin’: Buy a hot coffee and get a second cup of equal or greater value for free Sunday. Also through Dec. 31 from 2 to 6 p.m. daily, get a medium-sized Dunkin’ Latte, Cappuccino or Americano for $2.
Godiva Boutiques: Coffee bags are buy one, get one 50% off Sunday.
Hardee’s: Get a free coffee with any purchase Sunday when you sign up for the chain's email program at www.hardees.com/email_signup by Sept. 26.
Kolache Factory: Get a free cup of Katz Coffee Sunday when you mention National Coffee Day at the register. No purchase necessary and limit one cup per customer.
Krispy Kreme: Get a free coffee and one Original Glazed Doughnut Sunday, no purchase necessary. Also through Sunday, participating locations are serving the Original Filled, Coffee Kreme Doughnut. Find locations at www.krispykreme.com.
LaMar’s Donuts & Coffee: Get a free small coffee Sunday.
Le Pain Quotidien: Bring your own mug or thermos Sunday to get free drip coffee.
Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores: On Sunday and Monday, get a large 24-ounce coffee or hot beverage for $1. On both days, hot beverage sales will go to Love’s 20th annual Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals campaign.
McDonald's: Not a National Coffee Day deal, but with the McDonald's app, purchase five McCafé drinks and get one free. Download the app at www.mcdonalds.com. Also check the app for other deals.
Peet's Coffee: From Friday through Sunday, purchase one pound of beans at 25% off and get a free drip coffee or tea at participating Peet’s coffeebars.
Pilot Flying J: Get any size hot or cold coffee for free Sunday with an offer in the Pilot Flying J app, which you can download at www.pilotflyingj.com/app.
PJ's Coffee: Get a free 12-ounce Viennese Blend hot coffee or cold brew Sunday while supplies last. May not be combined with any other coupons and extras not included.
QuickChek: First-time users of the chain’s mobile app get a free hot or iced coffee Sunday when they download it at www.quickchek.com/qc-mobile-app.
Scooter’s Coffee: Get a free small brewed coffee Sunday. No purchase necessary and one free coffee per person.
Sheetz: Get a free cold brew coffee Sunday when you order through the Sheetz app, which you can download at www.sheetz.com/app.
Silk: While supplies last Sunday, coffee drinkers will be able to send Silk a PayPal request to silknationalcoffeeday@gmail.com for the cost of one dairy-free coffee drink purchased at their local coffee shop. Write your drink order in the notes section and get up to $5 back. Limited to $5,000 total reimbursements.
Speedway: Through Sunday, buy any size coffee and get a free package of Belvita breakfast biscuits.
Starbucks: The coffee giant doesn't have a freebie this year, but through Sunday, U.S. stores will have Siren's Blend coffee. Starbucks says that for every cup of the medium roast sold, 15 cents will be distributed between International Women’s Coffee Alliance and Days for Girls, two organizations that support empowering women and girls.
Stewart’s Shops: Get a free hot or iced coffee from noon to close Sunday.
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf: Get a free regular brewed coffee Sunday with a $2 minimum food or bakery purchase. Limit one free coffee per customer.
Tim Hortons: On Saturday and Sunday, place an order through the chain’s mobile app and get a free reward that can be redeemed for coffee, eligible beverages and baked goods. Download the app at www.timhortons.com.
Vitality Bowls: Get a free coffee with purchase of a medium or large bowl Sunday. Limit one offer per person and not valid with any other discounts.
Wawa: Wawa Rewards members get a free cup of coffee Sunday. Join the program at www.wawarewards.com.
White Castle: From Sunday through Oct. 1, get a free coffee with any purchase and a coupon posted at www.whitecastle.com/value-offers/national-coffee-day.
Whole Foods Market: The grocery chain has teamed up with High Brew Coffee and together are offering free cans of the coffee with a coupon Sunday. Get a coupon at www.highbrewcoffee.com
