The company is licensing, at a cost of 7.5 million shares, the North American rights to the Cannabix marijuana breathalyzer from Cannabix Breathalyzer, the only company that has patent applications on this technology. The breathalyzer will provide rapid detection of THC and will be used roadside to identify drivers intoxicated by the use of marijuana, which currently can only be tested through collecting blood, urine or saliva samples, and police have no way to positively determine on the road that a driver is under the influence of drugs.
Kal Malhi, President stated, "It`s hard to prove when somebody`s high on drugs. The level of convictions on drugged driving is very low."
The device will also be useful for other practical applications such as testing employees in the workplace where intoxication by THC can be hazardous. As marijuana becomes legalized in more jurisdictions and increasingly accepted by society, the need for this product will undoubtedly increase.
According to company management, the current alcohol breathalyzer market is estimated to be in excess of $3 billion in North America.
