Wells Fargo, Operation HOPE expand programs in Gallup

Apr. 13—Wells Fargo and Operation HOPE are unveiling a redesigned bank and new financial services at the branch in Gallup this week.

The redesign is part of a Wells Fargo effort to create HOPE Inside centers at branches in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods throughout the country. The Gallup branch will be the first such center in New Mexico.

Operation HOPE provides financial education, one-on-one coaching and courses on credit score improvement.

The organization aims to provide resources to people who are unbanked, which means they don't have a bank account, or underbanked, which means they have a bank account but also regularly rely on costly services such as payday lending.

Eli Tully will be a full-time financial coach at the branch. Tully, who is Diné, will provide financial education on topics such as how to improve credit scores. The lessons will be free, according to the news release.

There is a ribbon-cutting Tuesday at the branch, 300 W. Aztec Avenue in Gallup. There will be free food trucks, a DJ and high school bands, according to a press release announcing the event, which starts at 11:30 a.m.
